The Amstrad CPC464 uses a ROM based basic interpreter, so every statement within the program is a system command. If a command without a line number is typed, whilst the computer is in a ready state, the command gets executed immediately. The above does not work on 64-bit Windows versions which do not have 16-bit DOS emulation. In this case, you need to call cmd.exe explicitly:

Visual Basic

Shelling out a sub task in Visual Basic is rather a pain if you need to wait for the task to complete, which is probably the usual case. But it is possible.
